JCPenney Christmas Buttons – Win Gift Certificates, Vacations, and More!

Have you heard about the JCPenney Christmas Buttons promotion going on? Now through 12/31/12, participating JCPenney stores are giving away free mini buttons in their stores.  No purchase necessary  - just go up to one of the counters and request your free buttons!

On the back of each button, there is a code that you’ll need to enter over at www.jcp.com/christmas to see if you won.  There are some great things you can win – vacations, JCPenney merchandise, gift cards, holiday certificates, and more!

I just started collecting buttons yesterday, and 3 out of my 4 buttons were winners! Here’s what I’ve won so far:

1.  A coupon for $5 off any purchase of $5 or more.   (I won 2 of these!)

2.  A coupon for $10 off any purchase of $10 or more.

So if you have a JCPenney store near you, go get your free buttons!  Limit of 2 button code entries per email address per day.

If you don’t have a JCPenney near you, you can request a code by mailing a 3×5 piece of paper with your name, age, state where you live, and email address to:

Promotion, P.O. Box 510765,  New Berlin, WI 53151 by 12/18/12.

I also apparently won prizes with 3 out of 4 button codes entered. Details were to be delivered via email. It’s been a full 24 hours since my first two entries were submitted but I have yet to receive an email. I checked the junk folder, etc. May I please ask how long it generally takes to receive the emails indicating prize details?

      Hi Angela,
I’m so glad you won! What did you win? If you won a coupon for $5 off or $10 off, they will send you an email within 48 hours with your prize certificate, and then you can just print it out and take it into the store. It’s good you’re checking your junk email too, just in case it ends up there. If you won a JCPenney holiday certificate ($5 or $10 off purchase, etc.) look for a notification email from JCPenney with a subject line that reads: “Your JCPenney Holiday certificate has arrived.” I just opened it up, printed it out and used it in-store. If you have more than one certificate, do separate transactions at the register. I just redeemed 2 of my certificates today that way. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

I entered 2button codes last week and patiently waited for email. Never happened. I have more from shopping today and it won’t let me enter them. Who dropped the ball?!!! I have just recently started shopping at JC Penney again and am once again I will have to consider if I will return. Very disappointed

    • Gwen says:

      Hi Judy,
I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t heard from them. I’ve been entering 2 each day for almost a week now, and for the buttons that were winners, I received an email notification within seconds. You’ve checked your junk mail? I actually had to do a search within my email, typing in “jcp” and found several that hadn’t shown up. You should receive 2 emails from JCPenney, the first one telling you that you won, and that you need to confirm your winning email notification, and after you’ve confirmed your winning button, the second email should arrive within 48 hours with the actual certificate with the barcode on it. I would definitely send an email to JCP at info@jcpbuttons.com and see what’s going on.

I have won total of 5 certificates (one for $5 & four for $10 each. It has been over a week, after postin comments on JCP facebook & sending many emails to info@jcpbuttons for the last few days, I got one certifica for $10.

          Hi Mina,
Congrats on your winning buttons! I’m glad that you’ve followed up with JCPenney regarding the situation….and I hope it can be remedied soon. I’ve been entering button codes for almost 2 weeks now, and the emails I receive after I’ve entered the code, are almost instantaneous. I’m stumped as to why it is taking so long for you to hear back from them after you enter the codes. Hopefully you’ll be seeing more of your e-certificates in your email box soon. ~ Gwen

I am very disappointed in the response time to get my bar code email on prizes I have won from the Christmas Buttons! The first two I won I got the next day! The other two I won on Nov.27th and still waiting! I have sent several emails to info@jcpbuttons.com and they tell me the elves are working over time to get them out! I called corporate office and get voice mails to leave a message! Some one should be available to take a call for a customer service call! Then I go to the store to get buttons while I make a purchase and I ask for two and they said they are only giving out one not two any more you don’t change the rules in the middle of the game!

      Hi Debra,
I totally understand your frustration regarding your experience with the JCPenney buttons. Even though I personally haven’t experienced any problems with them, there have been several other readers that have expressed their concerns that are very similar to yours. And I agree with you, there should be someone at the corporate office to at least answer your phone call. And that’s strange that they would only be giving out 1 button per customer, especially since we are allowed to enter up to 2 codes per day. Maybe the store only has a limited supply available. You could always call your local store and speak with the manager there to see what’s going on with that. On the flip side, congrats on your winning buttons! Have you decided what you’re going to use them to purchase? The possibilities are endless. :)

I have about 8 buttons and did my email and entered them and never got a email back. I don’t think the website is working most of the time. I have gotten back on and did my buttons again to find out if I won. It’s the only way I have figured it out to work. Ugh

    December 5, 2012 at 9:58 am
    • Gwen says:

      Hi Melissa,
I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t heard back from JCPenney regarding the status of your button codes. Have you checked your junk mail? Did you enter your email correctly when you submitted it? I’ve been entering codes for almost 2 weeks and have seen a slight delay in response time, but most of the time it’s an instantaneous response, literally within seconds, that I receive an email notification letting me know if I had a winning button code or not. You can contact JCPenney at info@jcpbuttons.com to follow up on this situation and see if they can resolve it. I hope that you have better luck with your buttons. Don’t give up! There are a lot of winning codes out there! :)

Are you entering the codes on this website? After you enter your email address, it should automatically take you to the screen to enter your codes.

I have not heard back either for my. I won a $5.00 and a $10.00 certificate but have not heard nothing. Can we go to the store and show them I have won

    December 7, 2012 at 10:17 am
    • Gwen says:

      Hi Nadine,
You’ll have to have the certificate with the barcode on it, showing you won. I was able to show the JCPenney Salon cashier my barcode when I brought it up on my iPhone, and that worked for me. They just need to scan the barcode or enter it in to make sure it is valid, and that it hasn’t already been used. If you are still having problems, I would send an email to: info@jcpbuttons.com for further assistance.

    • Gwen says:

      Hi Julia,
Are you entering the code exactly as printed? I believe the codes are case sensitive, so they have to be entered lower case or upper case, exactly as printed. Same thing goes for the letters in the spam feed. If that doesn’t help, please email info@jcpbuttons.com and let them know you’re having problems so they can assist you further.

I have two buttons that I never got an original email for, and another, that when I enter, it says “you’re not an in stand winner” then won’t bring me to the page that says to check your email.

    December 8, 2012 at 1:49 am
    • Gwen says:

      Hi Kimmy,

When you see the “You’re not an instant winner,” you should receive an email within a few minutes that says, “Sorry, that button is not a winner.” If you’re still having problems, please email info@jcpbuttons.com and let them know, so they can further assist you. Another thing to remember, make sure you’re entering your email in correctly when entering a code, otherwise, you won’t receive a response.

i just got my $5 certificate in my emaill…but before that i received an email saying that I’m a winner and to click on their link to write further information such as my address and phone number? why would they need my address and number if they were gonna send it to me in email?

    December 8, 2012 at 11:36 am
    • Gwen says:

      Hi Heba,
Congrats on your winning button! I’m glad to hear that you received the winning email. I’m not sure why they needed your address and phone number, that’s one request I haven’t seen as of yet in this Buttons promotion. And you’re right, the winning notifications are all sent by email, so I’m not sure why they would need your info. The only thing I can think of is that JCPenney added your info to their mailing list or mobile coupon list? You can send them an email to info@jcpbuttons.com, to see what it was all about.

      Hi Bobby Sue –
There should be 2 stickers on the back of the button: 1 sticker reads “China” and the other sticker has a 7-digit code of numbers and letters. The code that you’ll need to enter is the one with the 7-digits of letters and numbers. Hope you have some winning buttons!

We have entered several button oodes, and at first they were all working, either to let us know we won either a $5 or $10 certificate, or to say that our code wasn’t a winner. In about the last week or so, we have been getting a message in red on about 1/2 of our buttons that says “there is something wrong with the 7-digit code, please try again”, and even after entering it again 3 or 4 times (even though it was correct the first time), it either kept saying that or it would change to saying that the captcha was wrong! (well, which one was it, the incorrect code or incorrect captcha)….When I questioned them at JC Penney, they just gave me a email address to send my inquiry to….now, I just read on facebook, that someone saw employees putting buttons back into the pile of buttons they have (and it seemed that they had already entered them or at least had someone else alread enter them)….therefore, they seem to passing out buttons with codes that won’t work..????? KIND OF frustrating when we’ve gone there specifically sometimes to get more buttons in hope of winning something!

    • Gwen says:

      Hi Saundra,
Wow, I sure hope employees aren’t throwing buttons with used codes back into the mix! I have heard from several other people who are having the same problem as you are, so I’m thinking it’s a glitch in the system. Hopefully, it’s short-lived and can be resolved soon. I entered 2 codes today with no problems. Have you tried emailing JCPenney with the email address they gave you? I would keep trying to enter the codes on your buttons to see if they are winners, though. Codes can be entered up through 12/31/12.

  • Betsy says:

The button codes all appear to be lower case so that is not the issue in my case. I enter the codes and it tells me first the code is wrong then tells me the catcha is wrong. Now I did this before with no problems. Now i am entering my parents buttons and I am having problems. I know I am entering everything 100%. Something weird is going on…..not sure what to do.

    December 11, 2012 at 1:38 pm
    • Gwen says:

      Hi Betsy,
Yes, that does sound strange. I have heard of others having the same problem you are, though. Have you tried to contact JCPenney at info@jcpbuttons.com? Have you tried using a different email address to enter the buttons, such as your parents’ email address? Hopefully it’s just a short-term glitch that will be fixed soon.

    • Gwen says:

      Hi Lois,
I have heard from several other people describing the same problem you are having. I am wondering if there isn’t a glitch in the system. Do you have another email address you can try to submit the codes? That might be worth a try. I don’t know if your codes are good or not, and if I entered them, then I would be emailed the winning certificate. They might be winners, so I’m going to leave them up to you to enter. :) If I were you, I would try using a different email address, or just try your codes again tomorrow. Hopefully it’s just a short-term glitch in the system that will be resolved soon.

Hello. My 2 kids, my self and my mom have been collecting the buttons since they started and I am happy to report that together after all our patience of entering codes every single day, we have won just over 300 dollars all together! I used my kid’s codes to get their christmas presents. so I have completed my ENTIRE christmas shopping for FREE! The total most ive spent paying out of pocket was at most, 5 dollars! Just tonight I won a 25$ gift card and my niece won a 50$ gift card from a bunch I gave her! I even had enough coupon codes to surprise another family same amount with christmas presents! I plan on writting JC Pennys a long letter of gratefulness for doing this wonderful buttons game! Almost every single one id win would be a 10$ certificate AND the cashier told me I could do 3 at a time as long as they were the same amount! THANK YOU JC PENNYS!!

I have also had problems with Christmas buttons over the past 2 days. What’s interesting is that even though it allows 2 entrees per day per e-mail address, I keep getting the same strange messages when I attempt to enter my 2nd code. I either get “the code has been used” or “there is something wrong with the 7-digit code, please try again”. Multiple attempts to re-enter brought no result. I used several different e-mail accounts with the same results. I especially puzzled by the messages that code has been used on at least 4 buttons. It’s quite frustrating. I wonder if they are trying to restrict the entry to one attempt per day or what?

I personally have had great success with the Penny buttons. I’ve won almost 100 dollars so far, its been great. I think this is a very clever sales marketing idea. Only downfall is the codes are hard to read, the captcha’s are hard to guess, and you don’t get your certificate very quick. I haven’t had to wait more than 2 days, but when its Christmas time is of the essence. Other than that, Im giving JC Penney props on their cute buttons, and the number of winning prizes. I’ve also spent more money than I would have had they not had this promotion. I hope they bring it back next year, and maybe allow winners to claim prizes instantly or in 24 hours time frame, and make the codes a little bigger. Im a fan today I won 35.00, which is really going to help with xmas shopping. Whoo Whoo to JCPenney

I have 2 more buttons but cannot find where to enter the codes on the back of them. I would have entered them with my first 2 buttons but it said ONLY 2 buttons a day. So, did I lose out NOW on the other 2 buttons I still have? Seems like the site where you enter the CODE is gone. I did win a $ 5.00 gift certificate when I entered my first 2 button numbers, but I have NOT gotten my Certificate in my e mail yet.
